At Torah Academy, education is about more than just academics.

It’s passion and excitement for Yiddishkeit. It’s a love for learning and sensitivity to others. It’s a recognition of their important role as ovdei Hashem. And mostly, it’s the knowledge that they, as individuals, matter.

1982

Torah Academy, then called Gan Torah, opens its doors with 12 nursery-aged students, in rented space shared with a travel agency in Washington Square. It is Boston’s first Orthodox Jewish day school with single-gender classes.
The school’s values and purpose, as laid out in its founding mission, are still true today:

A group of families established TA with the goal of providing a quality Jewish and general studies education of a type not yet available in this community: single-gender classes; early exposure to and involvement with traditional Jewish philosophy, thought, and ritual, without compromising on excellent general studies education; and emphasis on the teacher (morah/rebbe) as a role model.

1986

The school is renamed; it is now known as Torah Academy.

1987

TA moves into its newly constructed building at 11 Williston Road. The school enjoys rapid growth with enrollment almost doubling each year.
