Those familiar with beloved Jewish children’s performer Uncle Moishy know his catchy tunes and timeless messages are iconic, and his appeal spans generations. That was clear in March, when the social hall at Young Israel of Brookline filled with over 200 excited children, parents, and grandparents for Together We Grow: The Uncle Moishy Experience & Benefit Concert.
Children jumped, sang, and laughed along with Uncle Moishy. Parents, many of whom grew up listening to Uncle Moishy on cassette tapes, managed to stay in their seats but were grinning from ear to ear. Grandparents beamed as they watched their grandchildren enjoy the same songs they once shared with their own kids.
In true Torah Academy fashion, the concert was more than entertainment. Torah lessons were at the heart of every catchy tune, and a mitzvah project encouraged families to capture the inspiration together. The initiative reinforced our belief that Torah values are lived and passed on together.
That generations theme carried through to May, when Torah Academy hosted its largest Grandparents Day yet. In preparation, students interviewed family members to trace the birthplaces of parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. The results, colorful geography projects featuring over 35 countries across six continents, showcased the richness of each child’s heritage.
The day itself was filled with warmth and pride. Students welcomed grandparents and several great-grandparents into their classrooms learning, laughter, and love were shared.
These spring events affirmed a central truth: Torah Academy is a living link in the chain of Jewish continuity. It’s a school where generations come together to learn, celebrate, and build a vibrant Jewish future.
